At Hartwood Timber, we love bringing bespoke wood projects to life, but there is always an extra layer of pride when a project allows us to give back to our local community. Recently, we had the wonderful opportunity to create and donate a custom piece for a local school – a project that truly speaks to the power of shared values.
The result is a beautiful, large circular sign designed to serve as an inspiring focal point. We understand this sign is destined for the school’s staffroom, providing a daily touchstone for the dedicated educators and staff who work tirelessly for our community’s children.
The Meaning Behind the Design
The sign beautifully highlights the school’s “STREAM” values acronym, cleverly wrapping text around the bottom edge of the circle as a reminder of the values.
Paired with the clean, flowing wave engraving in the centre, the design represents a harmonious environment where both staff and students can thrive and flow together toward success.
Behind the Craftsmanship
The Material: We selected a premium, thick Birch ply. Birch plywood is celebrated for its incredible stability and clean, minimalist aesthetic, making it the perfect canvas for detailed work.
The Engraving: Using our precision tooling, we achieved incredibly crisp, clean engraving lines for the lettering and central wave motif. This deep contrast ensures that the values stand out clearly, even from across the room.
The Finish: To bring the whole piece together, we finished the timber with a high-quality natural oil which enhances the rich, swirling natural grain patterns unique to the Birch ply.
