Cookie Policy

About this cookie policy

This policy explains what cookies are, which ones we use on hartwoodtimber.co.uk, and how you can control them. For more on how we look after your personal data, see our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They let the site remember things between pages, such as what is in your basket, and help us understand how the site is used.

The cookies we use

We group our cookies into two types: essential and advertising.

Essential (always on)

These are needed to run the shop and to keep it working well. They cannot be switched off in our cookie settings.

  • Shop and account cookies (set by our website, for example woocommerce_cart_hash, woocommerce_items_in_cart, wp_woocommerce_session_* and wordpress_logged_in_*). These keep items in your basket, let you check out securely and keep you signed in to your account.
  • Google Analytics (_ga and _ga_*, kept for up to two years). We treat Google Analytics as essential because it is how we measure how the site is used, find faults and improve it. It records things like the pages viewed, the device used and how a visitor reached us. We do not use it to identify you personally.
  • Advert click record (hw_gclid, hw_gbraid and hw_wbraid, set by our website and kept for up to 90 days). If you arrive by clicking one of our adverts, we store the click reference so we can tell which adverts lead to orders.
  • Your cookie choice. Your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage so we do not ask you again on every page.

Advertising (off unless you accept)

These are only used if you choose “Accept all”, or switch Advertising on in the cookie settings.

  • Google Ads (_gcl_au, _gcl_aw and GCL_AW_P, kept for up to 90 days). These measure how our Google adverts perform and let us show our adverts to people who have visited the site.
  • Microsoft Advertising (_uetsid, _uetvid and MUID, kept for up to 13 months). These do the same job for our adverts on Bing.

How to change your choice

When you first visit, a notice at the bottom of the page lets you choose “Accept all”, “Essential only” or “Preferences”. After you have chosen, a round cookie button stays in the bottom-left corner of every page. Click it at any time to change your choice.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block all cookies, including essential ones, parts of the shop such as the basket and checkout may not work. Google also offers a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics on all websites.
