High Broom Lane Project
At Hartwood Timber, we take pride in creating bespoke timber signage that not only looks beautiful but also stands the test of time. Our recent project at High Broom Lane in East Sussex is a perfect example of how traditional craftsmanship and modern technology can come together to produce something truly special.
From Design to Completion
This project began with careful planning and detailed design work. We created precise 2D and 3D models of the signage to help our client – and local stakeholders – visualise the finished result before any timber was cut.
The signage was crafted from FSC® registered European Oak, chosen for its durability, sustainability, and timeless aesthetic. The text and detailing were CNC carved and engraved with accuracy, before being carefully hand-painted to highlight key sections.
To ensure strength and longevity, we used traditional joinery methods, joining the ladder boards securely into the oak posts. This not only guarantees stability but also gives the sign an elegant, handcrafted finish that will weather beautifully over time.

Meeting Local Council Criteria
The entrance sign needed to comply with specific local council requirements, including layout, colours and visibility standards. Working closely with our client, we adapted the design to ensure both compliance and aesthetic appeal. The end result is signage that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings while delivering clarity and impact.
Client Feedback
We’re always delighted when our work receives such positive feedback. Here’s what our client had to say about the finished project:
5-Star Review
“Hartwood Timber provided excellent service and high-quality signage for a recent project on my private road in East Sussex. I was tasked with replacing the entrance sign and creating a new directional sign for 10 of the 20 houses on the road. The entrance sign had to meet specific local council criteria, and Hartwood Timber was instrumental in helping me visualize my ideas and gain approval from stakeholders. Sarah, my point of contact, was incredibly helpful in managing this complex project. The craftsmanship and quality of the finished signs are exceptional, and feedback from all homeowners has been overwhelmingly positive. I highly recommend Hartwood Timber and would not hesitate to use them again in the future.”
A Lasting Impression
The finished signage now stands proudly at the entrance to High Broom Lane, making a strong first impression while serving its practical purpose. Both elegant and robust, this project demonstrates how bespoke timber signage can elevate an estate’s identity while withstanding the elements for years to come
